Nikola Tesla, born in Serbia, was a famous inventor and rival of Thomas Edison. A physicist, mathematician, and engineer, Tesla was able to envision inventions almost fully-blown and then reverse engineer his schematic visions into prototypes. He was less successful in commercializing his work than Edison, and so is less well-known. Like Edison, he was exposed to high voltage in the course of his work.
