John Quincy Adams (1767-1848) was the 6th president of the U.S. He suggested a vast program of modernization for the country. As a 7 year old boy, he witnessed the Battle of Bunker Hill from a nearby hilltop. He traveled widely in Europe and attended Harvard College.
