Barack Obama (1961- ) is the 44th president of the U.S, inaugurated on January 19th, 2009.  A Democrat, he defeated John McCain to become the first African-American president of the U.S.  Formerly, he was a Senator from Illinois. He attended Columbia University and then Harvard Law School.
