The Astronauts onboard the spaceship Discovery realize that HAL's programming may have gone awry. Dave Bowman suspects that the computer may no longer tolerate their presence, and arranges a meeting inside one of the ship's escape pods, ostensibly out of 'earshot' of HAL's microphones.
